Announcing our online “Spring Mini-Swiss” (over three Wednesday evenings) – register by Wed 24 March!
PLEASE NOTE: REGISTRATION FOR THIS COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED.
Our new Spring Mini-Swiss – Entry now open at https://www.cognitoforms.com/DCCAOnlineClub/SpringMiniSwiss2021 [deadline: 7pm on Wed 24 March]
Following the success of our first Mini-Swiss a few months ago, we will be kicking off a new Spring Mini-Swiss event, starting on Wed 31 March 2021. The event is designed for players graded up to 160 (i.e. up to 1900 in the new-style ECF ratings list at www.ecfrating.org.uk), with entrants grouped into sections to ensure they play others of a similar rating! To keep things light, the time commitment for players has been kept small – namely, an hour or so on each of three upcoming Wednesdays (31 March, 7 April, and 14 April) – plus the Final later in April, if you are fortunate enough to qualify!
We will be providing live commentary on all rounds via Tom Thorpe’s Twitch channel (Chesster1883), as we did for our Autumn Mini-Swiss – spectators will be able to tune into this coverage live, and participants can watch back afterwards! (Note: Although our previous broadcasts from the Autumn Mini-Swiss are no longer stored on Twitch itself, they can still be accessed on YouTube if you’d like to take a look – for instance, our Autumn Mini-Swiss Finals night broadcast is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRqLVm60b4A)
Further details on the format of the Spring Mini-Swiss are given in the paragraph below (and on the online entry form itself):
Planned format: The Mini-Swiss will comprise three rounds of play, on the evenings of Wed 31 March, Wed 7 April, and Wed 14 April respectively, starting at 7:30pm. In each round, entrants will play two games of 10min+6sec chess against the same opponent – i.e. there will be approximately one hour of play per round. After the conclusion of the third round, each player will have achieved a score out of six points. The top two players in each section (after any ties are resolved) will play off for the title at a special Finals event on the evening of Wed 21 April or Wed 28 April (TBC). The organisers reserve the right to tweak the format in response to entry numbers – any changes will be communicated to entrants.
Registration for the Spring Mini-Swiss is now open, and will close at 7pm on Wednesday 24 March 2021. To sign up, free of charge, simply fill in the short online entry form at: https://www.cognitoforms.com/DCCAOnlineClub/SpringMiniSwiss2021
